2026 NFL Draft - First Round Results & Analysis

1. Las Vegas

Fernando Mendoza

QB

Indiana

Usually there is drama with the first pick of the draft but not so much this year since there is only one franchise QB in this draft, the Heisman Trophy winner. Mendoza will be given time to develop behind veteran Kirk Cousins and will not be rushed into the lineup in Vegas. Mendoza is an athletic and highly intelligent leader who has the arm strength and intangibles to be developed into a long-term NFL starter.

2. NY Jets

David Bailey

EDGE

Texas Tech

The Jets produced zero INTs last season and that is due to poor coverage and an ineffective pass rush. Coach Aaron Glenn emulates the Lions' strategy of taking a well-rounded EDGE with fantastic character to lead the re-loaded defense this fall.

3. Arizona

Jeremiyah Love

RB

Notre Dame

Although the Cardinals have a deep and talented RB corps (James Conner / Trey Benson), they add the top offensive talent in this draft. Love has a perfect combination of power, speed, and agility to be a Pro Bowler as a rookie.

4. Tennessee

Carnell Tate

WR

Ohio State

The first surprise selection of the first-round, Tate profiles as the number one WR in Nashville as a rookie. Tate is much faster in real life than he ran at the Combine (4.53 40) and gives Cam Ward a dangerous WR with size and body control to excel as the top WR as a rookie.

5. NY Giants

Arvell Reese

EDGE

Ohio State

The Giants should have one of the most dangerous pass rushes in the NFL next season with Brian Burns and Abdul Carter joining Reese off the edge. Reese can be deployed as a LB to take advantage of match-ups and has tremendous upside to be developed as a pass rusher. The Giants make a great selection here.

6. Kansas City (via Cleveland)

Mansoor Delane

CB

Virginia Tech

The Chiefs move up three picks and give up a 3rd and 5th round picks to select the LSU All-American CB. Delane has sticky coverage and ball skills and projects as the Chiefs' top CB as a rookie. Delane is smooth and highly confident man coverage corner.

7. Washington

Sonny Styles

LB

Ohio State

Styles makes a great value pick with the speed, range, instincts, and tackling ability to excel in the NFL. Styles is a great athlete who profiles as a perfect match-up with TEs in space and or for spying athletic QBs. The Commanders have added a potential Pro Bowler to their young roster.

8. New Orleans

Jordyn Tyson

WR

Arizona State

Tyson's stock rose rapidly as the draft approached and the Saints are happy to snag him here. Tyson is fast, agile, and is a great leaper but he is highly injury prone missing significant time to injuries in high school as well as college. If Tyson stays healthy, he could be the best WR in this draft.

9. Cleveland

Spencer Fano

OT

Utah

The run on OTs begins with the drafting of Fano, the Utah ORT with the lateral agility to play OLT, although his shorter than desired arms may eventually be forced to play inside at guard. Fano is a plug and play starter in Cleveland.

10. NY Giants (via Cincinnati)

Francis Mauigoa

OT

Miami, Fl

Mauigoa instantly ugrades the OL as the likely new ORT for the Giants. Mauigoa could slide inside to guard and become a plug and play starter as a rookie. Harbaugh's Giants just got tougher.

11. Dallas (via Miami)

Caleb Downs

S

Ohio State

The best prospect in this draft falls out of the top ten so the Cowboys swap two 5th roud picks with Miami to move up one spot. Downs has no holes in his game and has Hall of Fame potential if he stays healthy. Excellent pick by the Cowboys.

12. Miami (Dallas)

Kadyn Proctor

OT

Alabama

Proctor goes off the board earlier than expected but addresses a major need on the OL for the Dolphins. If Proctor keeps his pads down and refines his technique, he has Pro Bowl potential.

13. LA Rams

Ty Simpson

QB

Alabama

The Rams decide to draft a QB that fits Sean McVay's offensive system perfectly in Simpson. With Puka Nacua's legal troubles, a WR like Omar Cooper or Makai Lemon but decide to draft Matthew Stafford's successor here. Simpson needs significant development before he is ready due to his lack of experience but goes to a great situation.

14. Baltimore

Olaivavega Ioane

OG

Penn State

Ioane may be the best OL in this draft with both a high ceiling / potential and a high floor where he is very unikely to be a bust. Ioane is athletic and strong and buries people in the ground game. The Ravens addressed a mahor need with an elite talent.

15. Tampa Bay

Rueben Bain

EDGE

Miami, Fl

Bain's minor fall down the draft board is stopped by the Bucs, who value production over measureables (30 & 7/8" arms). The Bucs get a well-rounded EDGE with the versatility to slide up and down the line to take advantage of match-ups.

16. NY Jets (via Indianapolis)

Kenyon Sadiq

TE

Oregon

The Jets pass on WRs Makai Lemon and Omar Cooper to select the freakishly athletic Oregon TE. Sadiq has game breaking speed and can sky for the contested catch. Sadiq is also a quality in-line blocker who can play on every offensive down and will help both the passing and running game for the Jets.

17. Detroit

Blake Miller

OT

Clemson

Miller is a solid, logical choice to replace the departed Taylor Decker on the Lions' OL. Miller will likely step in at ORT with Penei Sewell moving to OLT this fall. Miller has more than 50 career starts and has played more than 3,000 snaps at OLT and ORT. Miller is a plug and play starter in the Motor City.

18. Minnesota

Caleb Banks

IDL

Florida

In a shocking selection, the Vikings decide to gamble on the upside that Banks offers. Banks broke his foot twice in the past 12 months and he only played in three games last season. Banks has freakish athleticism and the upide to be a game wrecker inside, if he can keep his pads down and stay healthy as a pro.

19. Carolina

Monroe Freeling

OT

Georgia

The Panthers select the uber-talented but inexperienced OLT out of Georgia. Freeling has only a dozen or so career starts but his reach and athleticism seem ideally suited to OLT in Carolina. He will compete with free agent signee Rasheed Walker for the starting OLT job.

20. Philadelphia (via Dallas & Green Bay)

Makai Lemon

WR

USC

For some reaon, every year a superior talent falls to the Eagles and so is the case this year. Lemon, the Biletnikoff Award winner and SNS' number one ranked WR prospect falls to the 20th pick and the Eagles trade with division rival Cowboys to select Lemon. Philly is rumored to be trading AJ Brown after June 1st and Lemon will help replace the production that is leaving Philadelphia this summer.

21. Pittsburgh

Max Iheanachor

OT

Arizona State

The Steelers draft the burly, physical, and fierce ORT from Arizona State. Iheanachor is still raw, having never played high school football. But Iheanachor plays with good balance and bend. He should compete for a starting job as a rookie.

22. LA Chargers

Akheem Mesidor

EDGE

Miami, Fl

The Chargers are ecstatic that Mesidor falls into their laps. Mesidor has the versatility to line up anywhere on the DL to take advantage of match-ups. Mesidor is a quality run stuffer and is a relentless pass rusher with a fantastic motor.

23. Dallas (via Philadelphia)

Malachi Lawrence

EDGE

UCF

Lawrence bursts up draft boards and climbs into the first-round after showing out at the Senior Bowl and Combine after last season. Lawrence has great twitch and flashes elite pass rushing skill, he just needs to put it all together more consistently in the NFL.

24. Cleveland (via Jax)

KC Concepcion

WR

Texas A&M

The Browns need additional receiving options for QBs Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson and draft the uber-quick and sudden Concepcion to become the team's starting slot receiver. Concepcion dropped seven passes last year and concentration drops haunted him throughout his career at North Carolina State and Texas A&M. If Concepcion gets to be more reliable, he may be impossible to stop.

25. Chicago

Dillon Thieneman

S

Oregon

The Bears had the most productive turnover creating defense in the NFL last year but lost starting safety Jaquan Brisker to the Steelers. Thieneman is a well-rounded safety who is both a reliable run defender and a dangerous free safety with great ball skills.

26. Houston (via Buffalo)

Keylan Rutledge

OG

Georgia Tech

The Texans have no major needs and decide to draft the meanest and nastiest OL in this draft. Rutledge is strong, physical, and works until the echo of the whistle. Rutledge is equally adept at both run and pass blocking and is an instant starter in Houston.

27. Miami (via San Francisco)

Chris Johnson

CB

San Diego State

Johnson was one of the fastest-rising prospects in this draft class over the past month and that ascent brings him up to the bottom of the first round as the Dolphins select him at number 27 overall. Johnson has the size, length, and ball skills to step into a starting role as a rookie.

28. New England

Caleb Lomu

OT

Utah

The run on elite OTs is now complete as the seventh OT is drafted in round one when Lomu goes number 28 overall to the Patriots. Lomu was Utah's starting OLT the last two seasons and will likely become the Patriots' starting ORT with Will Campbell entrenched at OLT in Foxborough.

29. Kansas City

Peter Woods

IDL

Clemson

Chris Jones' level of play has tapered off with age and now is the time to find his replacement. Woods started since his freshman year at Clemson and has the position flexibility to slide up and down the line in a similar manner to how Jones is used in KC. Woods will be a major contributor next year in KC.

30. NY Jets (via SF through Miami)

Omar Cooper

WR

Indiana

The Jets' third first-round pick brings the team the talented Indiana WR who has the versatility to line up out wide or in the slot. Cooper should start on the outside opposite Garrett Wilson and team up with TE Kenyon Sadiq to make the Jets' offense much more dangerous now than last season.

31. Tennessee (via Buffalo thru New England)

Keldric Faulk

EDGE

Auburn

The Titans trade back into the first-round to pick the young and talented EDGE, Faulk. Faulk is young (he will only be 20 this next season) but has good college experience and is an improving talent. Faulk is an excellent run stuffer who can unpack a powerful bull rush to generate pressure on the QB.

32. Seattle

Jadarian Price

RB

Notre Dame

After losing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker in free agency (Kansas City) and with the late season injury suffered by Zach Charbonnet, the Seahawks badly needed a RB. Price has a nice combination of size, speed, agility, and toughness to step-in as Seattle's starting RB in week one this fall.
