2025 Draft Strategy
After winning their division title for the second consecutive season but failing to make it past the divisional round of the playoffs, the Texans decided to overhaul their roster trading for WR Christian Kirk, IOL Ed Ingram, and S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and jettisoning starting OLT Laremy Tunsil and starting guard Kenyon Green. Trading away Pro Bowl caliber starters on the OL seems like an odd strategy to undertake with a franchise QB already established. Houston signed Cam Robinson in free agency to start at OLT but this draft offers potential upgrades that Houston should consider at #25, including Josh Simmons (Ohio State), Josh Conerly (Oregon), and Johah Savaiianaea (Arizona). Stefon Diggs signed with the Patriots in free agency, leaving a hole for a starting WR on the outside in Houston. Options at the end of the first round include Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State), Matthew Golden (Texas), and Jayden Higgins (Iowa State). Other positions the Texans need to address include improving the quality of the IOL and improve the depth along the inside of the defensive line.
