The 100th East-West Shrine Bowl game will kick off on Thursday, January 30th at 8 pm EST on NFL Network from Arlington, Texas and will feature dozens of potential draft picks that should be selected in Green Bay in April. The two highest rated prospects participating, IDL Kenneth Grant (Michigan; SNS #25 Overall) and QB Shedeur Sanders (Colorado; SNS #35 Overall), are not practicing or playing in the game this week, electing to attend meetings and team interviews only. Although the biggest draft names are either not participating in any all-star bowl games or will be playing in the Senior Bowl on Saturday afternoon, the Shrine Game is a prime source of providing depth to NFL rosters and many prospects participating in practices this week will play instrumental roles in the NFL next season. Let’s take a look at some of the top prospects playing this week in Arlington.

Kyle McCord / QB / Syracuse

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6025 / 224 / 31.2 / 9 / 73.7

SNS Rank - #6 QB / #85 Overall

Transfer from Ohio State. Prototypical size and build with very good mass. NFL-caliber arm who can throw every route with excellent velocity. Good accuracy but ball sails when his feet are not set. Naturally gifted passer with an NFL set of tools. Well-developed skill set from starting at OSU and Syracuse – throws with timing, touch, and anticipation. Throws well rolling to his right when he can square his shoulders to the LOS. Good ball handler and is effective with the fake handoff. Very good straight-line speed but is not a true running threat. Very confident in his arm strength and sometimes make poor decisions as a result. Improving in his decision making with experience in his second year starting in college.

Max Brosmer / QB / Minnesota

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6013 / 216 / 31.6 / 9.2 / 75.3

SNS Rank - #17 QB

Transfer from New Hampshire. Acceptable height / build for the position. Good release speed with a clean, efficient delivery. Good arm strength but it may not be up to NFL standards. Throws a very catchable ball. Throws with good anticipation and knows how to throw receivers open. Has some mobility but is not a true running threat. Good field vision and reads the field well. Experienced, mature, and not easily rattled. High football IQ – regularly audibles and checks out of plays despite this being his first season in the program. Steadily improved in his first year of FBS football. Reads and processes coverages well. Profiles as a high-level, long term backup NFL QB.

Raheim “Rocket” Sanders / RB / South Carolina

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6000 / 224 / 31.7 / 9.2 / 76.3

SNS Rank - #9 RB / #86 Overall

Transfer from Arkansas (via Oklahoma). Excellent size – large frame with solid mass and a powerful lower body. Runs with very good balance and forward lean. Powerful runner who can be his own blocker and churn through arm tackles. Very good vision. Nice cutting ability. Very good burst through the hole or to the corner. Good long speed – deceptively fast. Shows promising ability as a receiver but lacks experience running routes and will need additional reps. Needs continued development in pass protection.

Tahj Brooks / RB / Texas Tech

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6000 / 224 / 31.7 / 9.2 / 76.3

SNS Rank - #10 RB / #96 Overall

Thickly built RB with an average frame, very good mass, and a powerful lower body. Runs with superb balance and is difficult to knock off his feet. Patient runner with very good vision. Excellent burst through the hole. Sneaky lateral agility and can make defenders miss in the hole. Nasty forearm. Runs angry – drives his legs and uses his body lean to gain maximum yards. Excellent pass protector – one of the best blocking RBs in his class.

Ja’Corey Brooks / WR / Louisville

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6014 / 191 / 31.5 / 9.3 / 76

SNS Rank - #12 WR / #81 Overall

Transfer from Alabama. Great frame and length with adequate mass. Very long arms and a large catch radius. Well-coordinated athlete with very good body control. Good sideline and end zone boundary awareness. Long strider with very good long speed. Can reach and snag the off-target pass. Inconsistent hands – double clutches too many attempts. Very good release at the LOS against press coverage – uses hands well to create separation. Displays the ability to make the circus catch.

Jimmy Horn / WR / Colorado

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

5076 / 171 / 30.6 / 8.7 / 74.4

SNS Rank - #35 WR

Transfer from South Florida. Smaller-sized receiver with an average catch radius. Frame is wiry and athletic. Very quick and elusive in space. Displays good burst and separation skill at the break point. Uncovers easily against man or zone coverage. Very good deep speed – has a second gear when chased. Capable of making the off target catch even when contested. Good kick returner who can run through pursuit angles.

Oronde Gadsden II / TE / Syracuse

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6042 / 247 / 33.5 / 9.7 / 81.6

SNS Rank - #12 TE

Very good height, frame, and length but lacking some desired mass and strength for in-line blocking. Son of former Miami Dolphin WR Oronde I. Very similar player to his father as a long, fast, well-coordinated receiver. Used primarily in the slot or lined up wide, playing a WR-like role, leaving in-line blocking duties to Dan Villari. Quick and uncovers easily against most LBs and safeties. Very good hands. Tough and willing to work the middle of the field and take hits and secures the ball. Typically wins at the catch point. Long strider who eats up ground after the catch. Used as an H-back in some sets and his lack of strength is evident when facing a good pass rusher.

Xavier Truss / OL / Georgia

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6066 / 310 / 33.3 / 10.4 / 82.7

SNS Rank - #3 IOL / #70 Overall

Excellent size – large frame, good mass, and a huge wingspan. Massive man with plenty of starting experience at OG and ORT. Strong and powerful, especially in the run game. Gets his hands on the defender, it’s typically over. Can reset the LOS with pure strength and force. Average lateral agility. Waist bender who works best in a short area – struggles the farther he has to move laterally. Sometimes has balance issues and is susceptible to a strong bull rush.

Trey Wedig / OT / Indiana

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6066 / 310 / 33.3 / 10.4 / 82.7

SNS Rank - #16 OT

Transfer from Wisconsin. Very good frame, mass, and overall length with a large wingspan. Starting ORT for the Hoosiers. Plays with a wide base and good bend. Shoots out low out of his stance in the run game and typically initiates contact. Quick out to the second level, where he gets good fits on LBs. Fluid and has light feet – mirror and slides and generally handles speed on the edge well. Lacks some desired strength and power and can be overpowered by a strong bull rush. Has some balance issues and is on the ground too much. Needs to improve hand use – punch lacks power and placement is inconsistent.

Marcus Wehr / IOL / Montana State

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6025 / 298 / 32.3 / 8.3 / 77.3

SNS Rank - #16 IOL

Possesses desired size and girth for an NFL IOL. Quick twitch displayed at the snap – initiates contact in the run game consistently. Plays with great leverage and pad level. Spends too much time on the ground – balance may be an issue. Needs to improve upper body strength. Climbs to the second level extremely well and can effectively neutralize LBs in space. Slides easily and has very good lateral agility. Smart and instinctive. Does not typically take drop steps in pass protection as the offense is RPO-based. However, his natural athleticism projects well to a traditional offensive system. Will need an adjustment time to adapt to the pro-style system and speed of the NFL game.

Tyler Baron / EDGE / Miami, Fl

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6044 / 262 / 32.7 / 10 / 80.1

SNS Rank - #14 EDGE

Transfer from Tennessee. Looks the part with the build, length, and frame desired for a 4-3 DE. Possesses a large wingspan. Lines up in both a two and three-point stance. Flashes a very quick first step and is typically one of the first players to respond at the snap. Effective in taking on the blocker and shedding the block with strong hands. Very athletic and fluid. Rangy and fast with the skill set to project to OLB, although he looks a bit lost moving backwards and seems most comfortable going forward and rushing the passer. Has a very nice spin move. Displays an effective closing burst on the QB or ball carrier. Smart, aware, and assignment responsible.

Tyler Batty / EDGE / BYU

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6050 / 269 / 32.4 / 9.3 / 79.3

SNS Rank - #22 EDGE

Looks the part with the body and build desired for a 4-3 DE – excellent height, frame, and mass with a large wingspan. Displays a powerful bull rush. Sets a strong edge and turns runs back inside consistently. Very smart and assignment responsible. Not overly quick nor nimble and does not bend nor flatten well. Great effort and motor. Needs to develop additional pass rush moves to defeat OTs more efficiently. Strong player. Flashes a quick first step at the snap and knows how to get skinny and slip into the backfield. Very good motor and works extremely hard.

CJ West / IDL / Indiana

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6005 / 314 / 31.4 / 9.7 / 78.7

SNS Rank - #24 IDL

Transfer from Kent State. Below average height with a wide frame and very good mass. Arm length and wingspan are less than desired but a good length relative to his height. Plays with natural bend and leverage. Quick twitch displayed at the snap and his quickness is impressive. Strong and physical at the POA – plays low and is difficult to unroot in short yardage situations. Very effective hands fighter and sheds blocks well. Well-schooled and smart. Quick burst through the hole. Effective closing burst on the QB. Sneaky good athlete with good foot quickness to be used effectively in stunts and games. Quick with very good lateral agility that exposes IOL who lack it.

Francisco Mauigoa / LB / Miami, Fl

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6014 / 231 / 32.3 / 10 / 76.5

SNS Rank - #12 LB

Transfer from Washington State. Has the desired size for LB. Very quick with a good forward burst – dangerous blitzer with an excellent closing burst. Comes in under control and breaks down well to make the tackle. Reads and reacts quickly and attacks the hole against the run or on the blitz. Athletic and rangy. Physical tackler who brings his pads on contact – big hitter. Athletic and quick in space with the skill set to match up well with TEs and most RBs in coverage.

Jackson Woodard / LB / UNLV

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

6017 / 232 / 31 / 8.7 / 77.4

SNS Rank - #22 LB

Transfer from Arkansas. Good height, frame, and mass. Very good leaping ability. Effective in zone coverage – gets good depth in his drops and watches the QB’s eyes in coverage well. Limited speed and agility exposed in man coverage but he is highly competitive and smart in coverage. Secure and fundamentally sound tackler. Reads keys and reacts well in the run game. Good instincts and football intelligence. Effective blitzer.

Cobee Bryant / CB / Kansas

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

5110 / 171 / 31.7 / 8.7 / 76

SNS Rank - #13 CB

Good height and frame lacking some desired weight. Average length. Fluid and fast. Matches up well with both size and speed in coverage. Great coverage instincts. Excellent ball skills with 13 INTs recorded over the last three seasons, with at least four recorded each season. Competes at the catch point – physical and feisty – and attacks the ball in the air like a WR. Footwork is sloppy and it will cause him to lose phase in coverage. Willing tackler but form is poor and he too often misses in the open field. Cocky with the swagger desired at CB. Agile with the quickness to handle two-way goes out of slot WRs.

Jordan Clark / CB / Notre Dame

Height / Weight / Arm / Hand / Wingspan

5091 / 180 / 29.1 / 8.7 / 71.1

SNS Rank - #11 CB / #91 Overall

Transfer from Arizona State. Lacks desired height and mass. Lack of length – short arms and lack of height - limit him to slot duties at the NFL level. Son of Super Bowl Champion safety Ryan Clark (Steelers). Primarily plays slot CB for the Irish. Very athletic and smooth – can easily flip hips and handle two-way goes. Very good short area reaction skills displayed in man coverage with quick hands and feet. Very good foot speed and moves smoothly. Feisty and competitive at the catch point and plays bigger than his size. Good ball skills – attacks the ball in the air like a WR.
