Top 100 Picks: 4

DRAFT NEEDS: CB, WR, QB, IOL, EDGE

Perhaps the least talented team in the NFL, the Jets have two first round draft picks - number 2 and 16 - and four picks in the top 100 and need to hit on all of those picks. The Jets badly need a QB but are seemingly planning on acquiring their franchise QB in next year's expected to be loaded QB class. With the second pick, the Jets need to decide whether or not Arvell Reese / EDGE / Ohio State or David Bailey / EDGE / Texas Tech should be the selection. Bailey would most likely be more productive as a rookie than Reese. But Reese possesses rare athletic ability and tremendous upside to be developed into an elite pass rusher with time. With pick 16, the Jets should add a potential number one CB like Jermod McCoy or Colton Hood / Tennessee or Avieon Terrell / Clemson. If Ty Simpson / QB / Alabama is available with the first pick of the second round (33), the Jets will consider him but they have so many needs that they are likely to pass. Finding another starting quality WR like Malachi Fields / Notre Dame, David Boston / Washington, and Chris Brazzell / Tennessee are all potential selections at pick 33 or 44. Finding some competition for the IOL would improve depth. Trey Zuhn / IOL / Texas A&M and Caden Barnett / OG / Wyoming would be quality mid-round selections.

Let's take a look at the top two contenders to be the second pick of the 2026 NFL Draft - Arvell Reese / EDGE / Ohio State and David Bailey / EDGE / Texas Tech.

Arvell Reese / EDGE-LB

Ohio State

6041 / 241 lbs / 9.4” Hands / 32.4” Arms / 79.4” Wingspan

4.46 40 / 1.58 10-yard split

Possesses the height, athletic frame, and marginal mass for an EDGE. Good arm length and wingspan. Plays LB for the Buckeyes but deployed across the front seven to create mismatches and confusion for the QB. Will most likely convert to EDGE in the NFL. Flashes great twitch and first step quickness when lined up at EDGE. Reportedly benches 410 lbs. Excellent core strength. Plays with great bend and natural leverage. Very fast with sideline-to-sideline range – rare athleticism and agility for a LB. Very good instincts – rarely fooled or out of position. High football IQ. Solid read and react skills against the run as a LB. Excellent closing burst on the ball carrier or QB. Excellent pass rushing potential coming off the edge. Can bend, flatten, and accelerate to close as a pass rusher. Fantastic closing burst on the RB or ball carrier. Quick and strong hands to shed blocks. Smart and aware with a very high football IQ and instincts. Powerful and physical tackler. Athletic with light feet and good agility. Outstanding open field tackler – brings pads and delivers blows. First-year starter for the Buckeyes who lacks experience as an EDGE. There may be an adjustment period in the NFL since Reese lacks desired experience but once he gets acclimated to the NFL game, should excel due to his speed, strength, and explosiveness.

STRENGTHS

• Plays LB for Buckeyes but has rare athleticism; reportedly benches 410 lbs

• Excellent core strength; plays with great bend and natural leverage

• Very fast with sideline-to-sideline range; very good instincts and high football IQ

David Bailey / EDGE

Texas Tech

6035 / 251 lbs / 10.2” Hands / 33.5” Arms / 79.5” Wingspan

4.50 40 / 1.62 10-yard split / 35" Vertical / 10'9" Broad

Ideal size for a 3-4 EDGE with adequate size for a 4-3 EDGE – good height, good frame and length, and solid mass. Very good arm length and a large wingspan. Big hands. Displays great twitch at the snap – possesses a lightning first step and when he wins, his first step is a major contributor. Displays the desired attributes of bend, ability to flatten, and then burst towards the QB. Impressive closing burst on the QB in the pocket. Uses length well to disrupt passes at the LOS. Good pursuit skills and chases hard from the backside. Can slice through the LOS and penetrate the backfield with explosive burst and disrupt the play as it develops. Understands containment responsibilities and works to set a strong edge – lacks some power and can be ran at and neutralized. Displays a nice spin move. Good leaping ability and uses length well to disrupt passes at the LOS. Athletic with good agility, light feet, and fluidity to play in space as an off-the-ball LB. Possesses the athletic profile to cover TEs and some RBs in man coverage but lacks much experience in that role at either Texas Tech or California. Finished tied for the national lead with 14.5 sacks and 17.5 TFL in 2025.
